The Traditions of Christmas at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

Britain’s greatest Palace welcomes all for the festive season to enjoy “The Traditions of Christmas” at Blenheim Palace. From 10th November to 9th December Wednesday to Sunday inclusive, the magnificent Palace will be decorated with elegant displays of treasured yuletide traditions and in the Great Court Christmas trees will sparkle in the colonnades, offering visitors a truly magical experience.

Inside the Palace glowing fires in the State Rooms will provide a warm welcome to this unique Baroque Palace. Each room will feature delightful festive displays to explain the history of a particular Christmas tradition, from displays of Holly & Ivy, candlelit trees and mistletoe. Estate grown Christmas trees in the
Long Library and Great Hall will be decorated to explain the origins of Christmas traditions from hanging Christmas stockings; advent calendars and Christmas toys; to why we give Christmas cards and presents. Visitors can marvel at the
Marlborough family’s spectacular Christmas table decorated for a feast with all the delightful fruits and spices associated with Christmas time.

A traditional nativity scene will be set in the impressive chapel and organ music will bring the music of Christmas to life in the Chapel and Library on Sundays until 9th December. Inside the Palace full tours of the State Rooms will run throughout the day, except on Sundays, and don’t miss the fascinating visitor experience ‘Blenheim Palace: The Untold Story’. Children can learn about “The Traditions of Christmas” in our entertaining festive quiz.

Blenheim’s own unique shops provide an array of beautiful Christmas decorations, gifts and home grown food such as Blenheim Water, Blenheim Honey and a specially selected range of champagne, wines and liqueurs. The combination of books, handcrafts, toiletries and luxurious arts and crafts, inspired by the beautiful Palace and Grounds, make shopping a delight.

From 1st – 23nd December, freshly cut Christmas trees will be on sale from 10am – 5pm at the Palace and Blenheim Palace Sawmill, Combe. Grown on the estate, over 1500 Norway Spruce, Serbian Spruce, Nordmann Firr and Scots Pine will be sold during the three weeks until Christmas. The trees, which take a minimum of 6 years of specialist care and attention to get to a saleable size, are freshly cut from the estate only days before they are put on sale with the benefit being that they last longer in your home.
